Cat BreedsCat breeds are generally divided a couple of different ways: pedigree and non-pedigree, as well as longhaired cats and shorthaired cats. A Maine Coon Cat won "Best Cat" at the first major cat show held in the United States, in 1895, at Madison Square Garden. At that show, a Maine coon cat named Cosey, named "Best Cat," was awarded a silver medal engraved "National Cat Show, 1895," along with a silver cat collar with similar engraving. The Maine Coon Cat is the official Maine State Cat. 
Persian cats are affectionate and loyal. Persian CatsPersian cats, known for their beautiful long, soft fur and affectionate nature, are one of the oldest breeds of cats. Persians are warm and affectionate cats, and are loyal and close to their owners. Because of their thick fur, Persian cats and kittens require more grooming than other cats. Daily combing is needed to control tangles and hairballs. Persians have short legs, a long thick coat, large wide-spaced eyes, and a short, almost flat muzzle. Persian cats can be any color, including tabby, blue, pointed (or Himalayan), and tortoiseshell. Persian cats are the most popular cat breed, and with good reason. Their gentleness and loyalty, their affection, their calm nature, and their natural beauty make them a delightful addition to almost any household. They are highly intelligent, sociable and very close to their owners. No wonder they are so popular!  Ragdoll cats are gentle cats, so relaxed that they'll usually go completely limp when you pick them up. Ragdoll CatsThe Ragdolls are one of the most adorable cat breeds. They are very affectionate and love to stick around their owners. They are very placid and go very limp when you pick them up. That is why they are called Ragdolls. They are also very gentle and can be quite vulnerable.  This Abyssinian kitten is about as cute as they get! Abyssinian CatsAbyssinian cats have strong and lithe bodies. They are said to have originated from ancient Egypt. Abyssinians are very intelligent, playful and good with children. They seek a lot of attention and are easy to train.
