Feeding Your Cat It is important to feed your cat healthy food designed to provide the nutrition cats need. It is easy to learn what kinds of food your cat likes to eat. You can try different brand names and different types of cat foods and see what he likes — most cats will let you know immediately when they don't like the food you give them. Generally, kittens require more feeding than adult cats. Very young kittens need to be fed as frequently as four times a day. Kittens that are three to six months old usually eat three times a day. As the kitten becomes an adult cat, it needs only two to three feedings a day. There are usually two types of commercial cat food, the canned cat food and dry cat food. Sometimes, kittens do not eat these commercial cat foods. You may try either warming up the cat food or feeding the kitten baby food like minced chicken. Cats are sensitive to cow’s milk and do not digest it well. It is important to remember not to feed your cat cow’s milk while making sure they are fed with lots of fresh, clean water. Water bowls should be cleaned daily and water should be refilled throughout the day. You can also experiment on what treats your cat likes. Most cats love a special treat apart from the regular cat food they get. However, having too many treats can be unhealthy for your cat because it can cause overeating and weight gain. Different cats have their own eating preferences and styles. Some cats are big eaters and they would eat as long as food is available to them. In this case, do not leave the cat food on the bowl all day. Your cat is not likely to nibble on the food; it will probably gobble all in one go. If you own more than one cat, it is better to feed the hungrier and more aggressive cat separately from the rest. This is to ensure that the hungrier cat does not eat up other cats’ share of food. Train your cat to eat at specific time. Make a feeding schedule and gradually get your cat to get used to the timings. This way, your cat will not get over eat or get too hungry.
